Industrial Energy Savings

Industries

Nuclear power plants produce electricity for people, business and industry.  Electricity is produced in a similar fashion as fossil fuel (i.e., coal, oil, etc.) power plants, using steam to drive a turbines which spin an electrical generator, producing the electricity.
Energy efficiency has always been a priority at Georgia-Pacific, and today Georgia-Pacific facilities self-generate enough energy to meet more than half the company's annual energy needs. As an added benefit, much of that energy is generated from burning renewable biomass fuels, such as bark, wood residue and by-products from the wood pulping process.

Industrial plants are major consumers of water. Water is used in many processes. Sustainability projects focus on reducing the consumption of water and the energy-costs associated with cooling water so it may be effectively used.

This major mill complex upgraded their compressed air system and thereby eliminated $500,000 in annual rental compressor costs, reduced annual cooling-water costs by $500,000, and reduced electrical energy costs by $135,000 per year.
