Nestlé Creates Shared Value

NestlÈ’s principle, in the global context, is to manufacture when possible in countries for which commodities are sourced – rather than to export the raw materials. Regional manufacture for regional markets means our products have fewer miles to travel, resulting in lower transportation costs and less environmental impact. Today, about half of NestlÈ factories are in the developing world.

NestlÈ has reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 17.3% since 2003. Along with over 2000 of the world’s largest companies, NestlÈ participates in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), in order to share our strategy and results.

NestlÈ improves its energy efficiency, saving around CHF 33 million in 2007. The company has also reduced water withdrawal in our direct operations by 28% since 1998. At the same time, production volume has increased by 76%.
