Industrial Utility Efficiency

CAGI to Conduct Conference Session at Best Practices EXPO

The Best Practices 2021 EXPO & Conference, the event devoted exclusively to optimizing on-site utilities powering automation, announced the Compressed Air & Gas Institute (CAGI) will again conduct a two-hour conference session. CAGI is the Event Sponsor of the Best Practices 2021 EXPO & Conference hosted at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center & Hotel in Chicago from November 2-4, 2021.

“We are pleased to have the Compressed Air & Gas Institute as the Event Sponsor of the Best Practices EXPO & Conference, as well as a very active participant. CAGI serves as the unbiased authority on technical and educational matters affecting the compressed air industry,” said Rod Smith, Publisher, Best Practices Magazines & EXPO.

The CAGI Conference Session will occur November 2, from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. In years past, the CAGI session has been very well attended as experts from CAGI Members inform on the latest developments in compressed air technology, training and standards. Below are the presentation descriptions and representatives contributing to the CAGI conference session.

Session TitleMaximizing Efficiency and Reliability in Compressed Air Systems

Session Chairperson:  Chad Larrabee, Education Committee Chair, Compressed Air & Gas Institute

Speaker 1: Maintaining for Reliability

David Sleeman, Aftermarket Sales Manager, FS-Elliott

Today's changing business conditions have provided new incentives for companies to re-evaluate their maintenance operations. As plants have become more automated, and equipment more sophisticated, the emphasis has switched from merely fixing broken machines to keeping them running efficiently for longer periods of time. This presentation will compare preventative and predictive maintenance, condition-based maintenance, scheduled maintenance, and reliability-centered maintenance.

Speaker 2: The Industrial Digital Revolution and Compressed Air: Part 2

Jan Pingel, Product Leader, Digital Solutions, Ingersoll Rand

In part one, we discussed condition monitoring, remote monitoring, and predictive maintenance and how they can be used as problem solving tools for reliability, efficiency, and energy monitoring.  This presentation will dive deeper on how you can leverage the inputs from these advanced technologies for desired outcomes.

Speaker 3: Centrifugal Control Strategies to Deliver Optimum Efficiency with High Variable Demand

Chris Nacrelli, Business Development Manager, Atlas Copco Compressors

Not only do centrifugal compressors provide oil free air by design, but they are also efficient in higher air flow demands. What happens when the centrifugal needs to operate in a part load? How do you ensure your centrifugal compressors are operating optimally to meet the variations in demand? This presentation will provide valuable information on centrifugal compressor technology and the control strategies to deliver optimum efficiency with high variable demand.

Speaker 4: Maximize Energy Savings and Improve the Bottom Line

Chris Knuffman, Business Line Manager, Reciprocating & Rotary Screw Compressors, Quincy Compressor

The first step to reduce compressed air energy costs is to measure and monitor your compressed air system's energy consumption, flow rates and operating air pressure. Small adjustments can reduce your operating pressure and energy costs while improving flow rates and output. This presentation will provide steps you can take to optimize your compressed air system and save energy costs.

After the first conference sessions of the day conclude at 10:00 a.m., the Opening Keynote Session will begin with CAGI Remarks by Chad Larrabee, Education Committee Chair, CAGI. Following this, the EXPO Hall (80 exhibitors and counting!) will be packed with innovative companies and technologies able to optimize compressed air, blower, vacuum, and cooling systems. CAGI will be in Booth 105. CAGI will also conduct on-site Certified Compressed Air System Specialist examinations at the Best Practices EXPO. Learn more.
