ABB has expanded its SD200 841 severe-duty motor line to 500 horsepower (hp). The larger frame sizes provide more power for demanding applications while maintaining full IEE 841-2021 compliance. Designed for harsh operating environments, the motors provide the rugged performance, reliability and long service life required in severe-duty service.

ABB’s SD200 841 severe-duty motor
The SD200 841 line is engineered to meet or exceed IEEE 841-2021 requirements for efficiency, performance, construction, variable-speed operation and long service life. With the addition of larger 5000 series NEMA frame sizes 5009 through 5013, the platform now spans 75 to 500 hp. The expanded range extends beyond the previous 449T frame size, providing greater horsepower coverage for large industrial applications operating in harsh environments. It delivers IP56 protection for operation in wet and contaminated environments. Class H insulation provides increased thermal capacity to support longer motor life in high-temperature applications.
Bearing isolators on both drive and non-drive ends help prevent contamination and reduce unplanned maintenance. Motors operate at low vibration levels of 0.06 IPS, supporting smooth, efficient performance in high-torque applications.
Each motor ships with an IEEE 841 test report and is backed by a five-year warranty. Safety certifications include UR component recognition and CSA listings for Class I Division 2 and Class II Division 2 hazardous locations.
An oversized conduit box and field-modifiable design simplify installation, connection and maintenance. The 5000 frame size motors also feature factory-installed terminal blocks as standard, replacing traditional flying leads. This enhancement improves connection reliability, simplifies installation and provides easier access for maintenance.
The SD200 841 FS500 is purpose-built for petroleum and chemical plants, pulp and paper mills, mining and aggregates operations, cement production facilities and industrial process pumping and conveying applications where reliable high-horsepower performance is critical.
